Madison Tenant Power
When Orosz Properties took over Karen Arms Apartments (now Royal Arms) in 2023, they raised rents by 20-40%. In response, tenants fought back. They organized to write letters to management (garnering over 100 signatures each), confront management directly, and attract press coverage of their situation.
When the landlord, Les Orosz, said he would not budge on his rents, tenants organized a GoFundMe to help three elderly tenants in need of financial assistance. The Royal Arms fundraiser raised $5,451, nearly $1,000 over its original goal! This is enough for each fundraiser beneficiary to pay one month’s rent.
Furthermore, facing negative press, bad reviews, and mass move-outs, Orosz Properties is struggling to fill vacant units at Royal Arms. As a result, Orosz is being forced to compromise on rent to retain tenants, and at least five tenants have been offered rent reductions! Royal Arms serves as an example of what can be done if tenants get organized and fight back against landlords!
